Well done India!!

Looking at Viru and Gauti makes me realise how much we were missing out on in the past few years with no settled openers. Even with a rock solid middle order there was always a piece missing from the puzzle. That seems complete now. Oh, except for Dravid. As for him, he either needs to fire in the next match(with a convincing innings, not a scratchy, coma-inducing half century) or he needs to be fired!

Onto England. They definitely are a better Test team than an ODI one. They can take back a lot of positives from the performances of Strauss, Collingwood, Flintoff and Swann. They were ahead of India till the end of Day 3 but erred badly when they needed to set India a target. Their batting lost the plot. But Sehwag was the one who actually took the game away from them. 387 should have been good enough. But he had other plans! And he executed them in such a manner that his innings overshadowed every other performance of the match.

Thanks you guys, for winning this game in such incredible style.

I agree with you that Dravid needs to show in the next match that he is still deserving of a spot in the XI. However, we had Yuvraj, Rohit, Badrinath and to an extent Raina to step in when Sourav retired. Is there enough talent to step in to No.3? One might say M. Vijay.. or even Pujara.. Beware of what you wish for!

perfect match...cricket returned with bang...and when there's no clear winner till the last session of match you know you have just witnessed a classic epic...

amongst the hoopla of sehwag, sachin and yuvraj...we must not forgot our bowlers brought us back in this test match first with water tight line when wickets were not coming...and then taking wickets in hurry...specially flintoff's...which added to england's conundrum whether to go all out attack or defend...

but all in all a great team work...

cheers!!

Subash...even Vijay is an opening batsman. You cannot count him as a #3 replacement. It would have to be someone from the other names you mentioned. True, they might not be in Dravid's league, but then based on current form, we might as well give them a chance. Dravid is like a walking wicket these days.

SP

yup..it was a complete game. I am not saying this because we won it, but even if India would have gone down fighting I would not have minded that much. It feels nice when everyone contributes. Batsmen, bowlers and not the forget the captain :)

It was an incredible win for India.. As for Dravid, why wait till the next match?

because.....we should....

I don't know yaar...I guess I am still hoping that he may regain form and continue for a few more matches....that is the crazy RD fan in me talking :)

Folks

I'll be brutally honest - until the last half a dozen test matches I always had Dravid as a better batsman than Sachin, simply because he has played so many matchwinnings innings.

I know most you guys would say this is sacrilegious, and point to SRT's 100's and averages et al.

But lately it's been so painful watching Dravid bat. Yesterday morning I was up at 4 hoping the Wall stays true to his name and takes India to a win. His effort was so painful that seriously it's time he hung his boots up and retired gracefully.

I simply don't want him to go the Kapil way, when people asked ' why not' rather than ' why' when he kept playing just to break the 431 WR.

I truly hope to read within the next couple of days that Mohali is going to be Dravid's last test. He has earned the right to call it a day, rather than be pushed.

"coma-inducing" half centuries LOL... the heat is on him. I wish he manages to strike form and then call it off. Sad to see a great of the game be unwanted.

how did SRT and SCG regain their lost form? Would some good old black magic work? I am out of ideas now!

Chennai was epic in true sense of the term but to be honest, you don't see this kind of performance every other day. Sehwag's blitzkrieg, Sachin's sublime ton and then Yuvi looking serious about Test cricket! It simply doesn't get better!

Pleasure to add you. It is good to find another female cricket fan and I enjoy reading your blog :)

Not to forget the bowlers who restricted England in the second innings after they got off to a great start Som. It was a remarkable effort indeed!
